N001 BINISSALEM, MALLORCA
Renovation and extension of a single-family home
Location: Binissalem, MallorcaYear: 2024 -Architects: nimia (Francesc Lillo)Status: Under construction
N001 is the renovation of a townhouse in Binissalem, Mallorca.
The project begins with a clear premise: maximum preservation of the original body of the house, built with marès stone walls. Over time, these walls have acquired an irregular, slightly deformed geometry, far removed from any strict orthogonality. Rather than correcting them, the project embraces them as both a value and a starting point.
A new gabled roof reorganises the overall volume, while on the ground floor a third sloping roof appears, resolved as a light timber-and-glass conservatory. Placed towards the courtyard — oriented to the north — it acts as a solar collector, allowing southern light to reach the main rooms of the house.
The kitchen and dining room open onto this intermediate space, resolved with a large folding accordion-style joinery. When open, the house dissolves and the boundary between inside and outside disappears; when closed, the conservatory works as a greenhouse that regulates climatic conditions.
The project is built on contrast.
On one hand, the solid, irregular, opaque matter of the existing marès stone. On the other, a new architecture: precise, light, and transparent. The aim is not to unify languages but to make evident the passage of time and the coexistence of two ways of building.
Where the existing fabric is weight and memory, the new intervention brings light, precision, and reversibility.

N002 ALARó, MALLORCA
Renovation and extension of a single-family home
Location: Alaró, MallorcaYear: 2025 -Architects: nimia (Francesc Lillo)Status: Under construction
N002 is the renovation of a townhouse in the historic centre of Alaró.
The existing building is organised into three longitudinal bays — a characteristic layout, but with one clear limitation: the darkest rooms ended up at the centre, without ventilation or direct light.
The project takes this reading as its starting point and acts on the central bay, where a courtyard is opened up that cuts vertically through the home. This minimal but decisive operation allows the light to be redistributed, generates a new spatial order, and brings quality to the rooms that had previously been left in the dark.
From this gesture, the uses are reorganised: the ground floor hosts the communal areas connected to the courtyard, while the first floor concentrates the private rooms.
The intervention recovers the original structural elements — marès stone walls, timber joists, eaves — and combines them with a new contemporary layer that is light and precise.

C001 FELANITX, MALLORCA
Rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and urban integration of Es Sindicat
Location: Felanitx, MallorcaYear: 2025Architects: Marga Ripoll, Maria Font i Francesc Lillo

Europan 18 proposes the transformation of existing urban fabrics through new social and environmental dynamics. Within this context, the intervention at Es Sindicat in Felanitx approaches the former cooperative complex as an opportunity to activate it and reconnect it with its surroundings.
The project's main strategy is to reverse its condition as a closed-off building.
Through selective demolition operations, the building opens up in section, allowing natural light in and creating new interior routes. The naves are transformed into continuous spaces, articulated through the original wine vats, repurposed as environmental and spatial infrastructure.
The project proposes a cultural and social programme that returns a public service to the town after years of inactivity. The building becomes a new — and at once historic — identity hub: a space to celebrate everything that shapes the identity of Felanitx. Art takes a central role, in keeping with the presence and trajectory of the municipality's many artistic ambassadors.
The two large naves are devoted to the highest-traffic uses, especially exhibitions and indoor community workshops. This decision coexists with the aim of preserving the original wine vats in place. To make this possible, a two-level system is introduced, separated by a light, partly transparent floor slab: the lower level, more controlled and protected, hosts the exhibition programme; the upper level, more luminous and open, is reserved for workshops and flexible activities, adaptable through movable elements such as curtains or screens. Both levels are visually connected through a large central plaza-foyer that articulates the whole.
The outdoor spaces also play a meaningful role, designed to host festive celebrations and performances. The immediate surroundings are organised around two squares: one in front of the auditorium, conceived as a recreational area, and another that consolidates the existing square in front of the main facade. The articulation and dimensioning of these spaces follow a grid based on the proportions of Es Sindicat's floor plan, materialised through a light pergola that provides shade, order, and scale, and which also acts as an access filter. In the square, a system of cable-supported pergolas follows the same grid, ensuring that the building's most recognisable symbol — its main facade — is not visually obscured.
