N001 is the renovation of a townhouse in Binissalem, Mallorca.

The project begins with a clear premise: maximum preservation of the original body of the house, built with marès stone walls. Over time, these walls have acquired an irregular, slightly deformed geometry, far removed from any strict orthogonality. Rather than correcting them, the project embraces them as both a value and a starting point.

A new gabled roof reorganises the overall volume, while on the ground floor a third sloping roof appears, resolved as a light timber-and-glass conservatory. Placed towards the courtyard — oriented to the north — it acts as a solar collector, allowing southern light to reach the main rooms of the house.

The kitchen and dining room open onto this intermediate space, resolved with a large folding accordion-style joinery. When open, the house dissolves and the boundary between inside and outside disappears; when closed, the conservatory works as a greenhouse that regulates climatic conditions.

The project is built on contrast.

On one hand, the solid, irregular, opaque matter of the existing marès stone. On the other, a new architecture: precise, light, and transparent. The aim is not to unify languages but to make evident the passage of time and the coexistence of two ways of building.

Where the existing fabric is weight and memory, the new intervention brings light, precision, and reversibility.
